Description
This underfloor heating thermostat controls water-based or electric floor heating to within one degree, holds a weekly schedule, and can be adjusted from your phone. It comes in two versions, GA for water systems at 3A and GB for electric heating at 16A, so specify which you need when ordering.
Choosing the right version
Getting this wrong is the most common ordering mistake. A water system heats through pipework and a manifold, and the thermostat drives a valve actuator, so the 3A version is sufficient. Electric floor heating runs a resistive mat or cable directly, and at 16A the GB version switches that load itself without a contactor. If you are unsure which you have, look at what sits in the manifold cupboard: pipes and actuators mean water, a cold tail and a floor sensor mean electric. Automatic electrical controls of this kind, including temperature sensing controls, are covered by IEC 60730-2-9.

Scheduling and running cost
Floor heating is slow to respond, which is precisely why a schedule matters more here than on a radiator system. A floor takes a long time to come up to temperature and a long time to lose it, so heating to a setpoint on a weekly programme rather than reacting to how a room feels is what keeps the running cost sensible. Set the schedule once for the season and adjust from the app when plans change.
Network requirements
The radio is 2.4 GHz only, the band covered by ETSI EN 300 328, so a dual-band router may need its SSIDs separated during pairing. App control runs through the vendor cloud, so remote adjustment needs an internet connection. The thermostat itself keeps running its stored schedule regardless, which is the behaviour you want when the connection drops.

Does the schedule keep running without internet?
Yes. Only remote adjustment from the app needs the connection.
Will it fit my existing back box?
It uses a standard 86 x 86 mm faceplate with 60 mm mounting centres, which fits most installations.
Sensor placement
An underfloor heating thermostat is only as accurate as its sensor position. The floor probe should sit in a conduit between two heating runs, not directly on a cable, so it reads the slab rather than the element, and it should be reachable so it can be replaced without lifting tile. Getting this wrong produces a system that overshoots and short cycles, and it is the most common fault we find on installations done by someone else.
Commissioning and first season
A floor slab holds heat for hours, so the first week is spent learning how far ahead of occupancy the schedule needs to start. Expect to bring the start time forward by an hour or more compared with a radiator system. Once set, an underfloor heating thermostat rarely needs touching again for the rest of the season, which is the point of the weekly programme.
