Description

This valve control thermostat does one job properly: opening and closing a motorised water valve against a measured temperature, with an external NTC sensor where the reading needs to come from somewhere other than the wall unit. At 400W rated output it has more headroom than a typical fan coil controller.

Valve control rather than fan control

If your system has no fan, a fan coil thermostat is the wrong instrument. Radiator circuits, water heating loops and 2-pipe systems need valve switching and accurate temperature sensing, and nothing else. That is what this unit provides, with the extra output rating for larger actuators and the 9-terminal layout that carries a second neutral and dedicated sensor terminals. Controls of this class are covered by IEC 60730-2-9.

Key features

  • Valve open and close control
  • NTC external temperature sensor support
  • LCD display with touch interface
  • AC 220V plus or minus 10 percent, 50/60 Hz
  • Rated output up to 400W
  • 9 screw terminals including a second neutral
  • Durable ABS housing

Terminal layout

L Live
N Neutral
Valve OFF Valve close
Valve ON Valve open
N (second) Additional neutral
8 and 9 NTC sensor terminals

Where the NTC sensor helps

The wall unit measures air where it is mounted, which is not always where the temperature matters. An external NTC lets you sense a floor slab, a buffer tank or a room the controller is not in. In a villa where the plant room and the living space are far apart, that is the difference between a system that holds temperature and one that hunts.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the fan coil thermostat?
This one controls a valve only and has no fan speed outputs, with a higher 400W rating and NTC sensor terminals. If your system has a fan coil unit, choose the fan coil thermostat instead.

Will it drive a thermostatic radiator valve?
No. It needs a 220V AC motorised on and off valve. TRVs, low-voltage valves and modulating valves are not compatible.

Is the NTC sensor included?
Confirm at the point of order, as sensor supply varies by batch.

Checking your valve before you order

A valve control thermostat needs a 220V AC motorised valve taking a simple open and close signal. Before ordering, look at the head of the valve on the manifold or the radiator. If it carries a mains cable and clicks when the system calls for heat, it is almost certainly compatible. If it is a small white cap you turn by hand, or it runs on batteries or 24V, it is not. Photograph the valve head and send it to us if you are unsure, because this is the one detail that determines whether the unit works at all.

Output rating and multiple valves

At 400W the rated output is high enough to drive more than one actuator on a single zone, which is useful on a manifold serving several loops in one room. Add up the actuator ratings and keep the total inside 400W. Where a property has several genuinely independent zones, each needs its own valve control thermostat rather than sharing one, since a shared unit will hold every zone at whichever room it happens to be sensing.
